Who’s ready for the upcoming school year?! With summer break slowly coming to an end, our staff is preparing to welcome Club kids back to school! All week we’ve been training to make sure our youth have a program filled with meaningful enrichment opportunities that support learning and social growth after school. The Royal Court and knights demonstrated the Code of Chivalry, interweaving historical takeaways throughout the show. Club kids are cooking! Learning to cook is one of the many specialized programs at the Club. Cooking at the Club educates and empowers students to make nourishing food choices through hands-on learning. Antelope Valley Boys & Girls Club has been selected by Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) to receive a grant in order to continue to drive academic success for youth. This funding will be applied to in-person academic programming through Project Learn. Project Learn is based on research showing that students do better in school when they spend their non-school hours engaged in fun and academically beneficial activities. To keep Club members safe, supported and learning, Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Panda Cares is scaling Project Learn to support academic success, reinforcing and enhancing what youth learn during the school day while creating experiences that invite them to fall in love with learning. Don was more than a Board Member; he was a pillar of wisdom, a source of inspiration, and a true champion for our community's youth. His dedication and unwavering commitment to our mission touched the lives of countless children and families in the Antelope Valley As we mourn the loss of Don, let us also celebrate the incredible legacy of service he leaves behind. Don was an active member of many community service groups and had a heart for helping people, especially youth. His impact will continue to ripple through the community he served, reminding us all of the profound difference one person can make. Looks like we have future scientists at the Club! 👩‍🔬👨‍🔬🎈🧪 In this fun experiment, students learned how they can capture gas produced in a chemical reaction. By adding baking soda to vinegar it causes a reaction. That reaction releases a gas called carbon dioxide. Because the balloon forms a seal around the bottle, the gas produced cannot escape, so it fills up the balloon. Fun ways to learn! Today is National Penguin Day! Of course these animals are cute because they look like they’re wearing tuxedos and their waddle… but today we would like to raise awareness on the need to help save them. Many penguin colonies have been lost to climate change and its estimated that half of the population of emperor penguins will vanish by the end of this century. TEEN TUESDAY 🎉 On Tuesday’s we celebrate and highlight our Club teens. Taking a look at how our Club teens are spending their time at the Club and accomplishing tasks. Club kids participated in the UPS Road Code program. The program educated teens about safe driving techniques based on training UPS provides its own drivers, who are among the safest drivers worldwide. The program focuses on different safety principles, from basic instruction to the consequences of risky behaviors such as talking on cell phones, texting or drinking while driving.
