Dear Palmdale and surrounding Antelope Valley Community,
It is with sadness that we announce the official closing of the Hammack Activity Center in Palmdale. For 28 years the Hammack Activity Center has been called home to over 11,000 kids who have used the center as a safe place with caring mentors and life-enhancing programs focused on academics, health and leadership. The Club is a place where friendships form, skills are built and confidence is increased. It’s been a place to become your best self and pursue your dreams with the help of a caring adult and supportive peers.
Through a long term partnership with the City of Palmdale, the Boys & Girls Club of Antelope Valley have welcomed youth at this facility and positively impacted not only the lives of the youth we serve, but the staff, mentors and volunteers, who have had the honor to be a part of a child’s life. Unfortunately, the City has informed us that the building has outlived its usefulness to the community and we must relocate our Palmdale program.
Boys and Girls Clubs are an integral part of the community. It is essential that we continue to make the unheard heard, to create safer childhoods, to break cycles of inequity, to close the skills gap and to mentor tomorrow’s leaders.
Rest assured that the Board of Directors and Club Leadership is working diligently to find our Palmdale youth a new and improved place to call home, but we can’t do this without your help. If you believe like we do, that success is in reach for all kids, become involved in the Club. This is the time to rally around our most vulnerable youth and take a stand to ensure great futures are ahead of them.
Visit our website, make a donation, or become involved in a committee to help relocate our youth. If you are an alumni of the Club, have been or are currently a friend of the Club, have children that attended the Club or the Hammack Activity Center, are an advocate for youth and you care about the future of our community, please rally with us as we aim to relocate the youth that need us most.
We promise to always be there for our kids. Whatever it takes.
Forever in Service to Youth,
Jay Duke
